CONFERENCE INTERPRETING
Conference interpreters enable people from different cultures who do not speak the same language to communicate. The quality of this communication depends on the interpretation being carried out by specialists and under proper conditions. Perhaps the most important key to the success of international conferences and meetings is the interpreter.
Conference interpreting is a profession that requires special training and skills: The number of professional conference interpreters worldwide does not exceed a few thousand, while in Turkey the number is around 300. It requires not only an excellent command of the two languages to be interpreted into, but also a deep general knowledge, an extensive knowledge of terminology in a wide variety of fields, and the ability to switch between two languages on the fly. Confidentiality, i.e., respect for the privacy of the meeting in which you are participating, is a prerequisite to become a conference interpreter.
Conference interpreting is not a matter of simply listing the dictionary entries of sentences and words in another language, but of transferring the content of what is said and the concepts from one language to another. The interpreter is considered to have fulfilled his/her task to the extent that he/she is able to make the listeners forget that they are speaking through an intermediary and to provide a dialogue that is close to direct communication.
Conference interpreting is a special profession and a specialist service. This is the main reason why we attach great importance to professionalism and why we are meticulous both in the selection of members of our association and in the observance of professional rules.
